Why Copper Gutters?

Copper is a soft but very durable metal and its lifespan is extremely robust.

Copper naturally has antimicrobial properties that don’t permit microorganisms to proliferate, that’s why it has such a long life span. It effectively kills microorganisms upon contact.

Copper has been a mainstay in human activity for the last 6,000 years whereas aluminum didn’t become mainstream until the 1880’s because it was then that the smelting process was refined for mass production.

Aluminum has many properties that keep it from oxidizing quickly but copper has a unique oxidizing process. As it ages, copper patinas into a bronze and green color. This is due to a chemical reaction when oxygen molecules combine with copper atoms creating its signature patina. This process can take many years to complete. The patina acts as a barrier to the elements and helps to prolong the life of the copper, thus making it a great product for gutters.
